Frequent Buyers of Domain Names at the Last Moniker/TRAFFIC Live Domain Auction
As requested, (then promised), I am reporting the live auction results, sorted by paddle numbers. This is instructive to see the buying and selling behaviors and patterns of people who understand the value of domain names. It also allows us to look at this, without naming names. (Even though I can identify many of them, I will not.) (Some have no paddle number, because of audio difficulties. Feel free to contact me to fill in the gaps.)

If anybody can fill in the gaps, let me know and I’ll adjust this.
Hi Tasha - I recognize you from Rick’s board!
I’m #327! I saw on another blog (I forget which one), that they thought that 26k for homemortgagerates.com seemed expensive, and the ‘home’ part was redundant. Maybe so - BUT - here’s why I went WAY past my comfort zone and kept slugging it out for that name.
I wanted the pair (w/homeloanrates.com) to feed traffic/leads to a site for an end user. I’m working out a deal with a lending group to share the results (I’m a licensed broker and a partner, so it’s legal!).
Here’s the logic - 26,000 combined searches/mo for those two terms. I figured a conservative 10% direct navigation. Cut it in half again. That’s 1300 people/mo dropped into a possible loan scenario. With even a 1% close - that’s 13 loans funded per month. With 4-6K each - that’s a potential 50-60K/month in real business. What are those names worth now?!
Ask me in 6 months……maybe I’m really wrong on this. In the meantime, I have to say that I feel like they may have been grossly UNDERPRICED! Think END USER, and valued traffic generating partnerships, and you’ll NEVER sell again!
P.S. I really wanted poker.mobi (up to 30k for me, how did the est say 1-5k?!), and caribbean/european vacations. I was surprised by how high the bidding went for all three of them. Some deeper pockets at work…..
Cheers, Bob Olea
*** Tasha: Bob I think you got a terrific deal on both of those. Honestly I was surprised they went so low. The unusual opportunity may have been created by the flash point of people misunderstanding the ongoing mortgage market, given recent bad press and investor melt-downs who were over-leveraged on sub-primes. Despite market volatility, people are not going to stop needing loans, and in fact will need more unconventional loans (with higher margins for the buying company) in a very, very competitive landscape in the midst of a housing recession. Domain names that are meaningful to the customer hold that much more value in such a market. Unlike the myopic traffic-only view, I alway start with the business case from the perspective of what’s being sold and how much each customer is worth in real dollars. You obviously do too. I think you’ll never regret these as two of your “greatest finds” in your domain investment portfolio. Congratulations on some great buys. Maybe we can work out some synergies on some of my mortgage domains, too.
Bob,
Where did you get this info: “26,000 combined searches/mo for those two terms”
I don’t see that in any of the search engines for those terms. Maybe I’m now looking in the right place. Please let us know.
They are great phrase names, good luck with them.
