I think that domain auctions should be held on a far more regular basis than they currently are….. there can be no such thing as ‘flooding the market’ as each name is unique… the turnover could be huge if it were easier to gain access to auctions for selling names….. after all, the motortrade auction off 100,000’s of cars every single day of the week around the world… why not open the market up a little!!?
*** Tasha: I think we’re seeing more and more auctions. Because there exists an easy way to buy and sell domains in a variety of ways (unlike cars) its not as unwieldy as attending and buying cars at an auction (and perhaps not quite as fun) but the market has a way of sorting itself out. The Pool and SnapNames and NameJet venues are essentially auctions, and so domain buyers are used to the whole auction lifestyle. What will be really interesting is when people who are used to buying art and coins and jewelry, and cars for investment sakes, discover domain auctions, and understand the huge return on investment of a well-invested keyword targeted domain name.
